Ate here last week. Interesting food and a cozy enviroment. Very casual and seems to do a good business.
Tried an olive spread covered fish. Never ate anything lavender colored before. Very nice.
Look forward to going back.

Absolutely terrific!!!: This has ben a great find - great food, staff and friendly atmosphere (love the frying pan collection on the wall!). I have to reccomend the Fried Yucca appetisor and Tacu Tacu entre. I'm not much of a beef eater, but Tacu Tacu Beef Saltado is so tendor and flacvorful, I promise you'll return to have it again! Great to have such a great comfortable place to bring friends to eat in downtown New Rochelle! Their Sangria is excellent and try the bread pudding for dessert - sinful!!!
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsSimple the best.: Love their seafood salad, guava milk shake and Peruvian beer.
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAwesome Peruvian Food: Great dishes. Good lunch prices. The taste is the best!

New York, NY
This small Peruvian restaurant is off the charts. I daresay it's the best Peruvian food I've eaten in NY State (having eaten in 4 other Peruvian restaurants in the city) and hands-down, it's the best restaurant in New Rochelle.
What's awesome -- humitas (corn tamale), causa (seafood or chicken and mashed potatoes), several soups (chicken noodle, chunky fish, and something that starts with a P, a seafood soup), their pasta special, their saltado de mariscos (seafood-rice combo), their lomo saltado. I've never eaten anything I disliked here, and I eat there twice a week now. They've got a steady clientele, but they're never packed.
What you NEED to know -- Closed on Tuesdays and .. call first if you're traveling from far. Owners sometimes don't open because they can do that. Specials are ~$7 for lunch and include a soup and small portion of an entree. It's enough to fill you up. I've asked them to open in New York City and they say no. Good for them, bad for us. Make the trip to New Rochelle and you will not be disappointed.

Restaurant Pick Of The Month
Cholo's Kitchen - 4 Lawton Street - (914) 235-0094
The emergence of a more vibrant restaurant scene is essential to the success of downtown New Rochelle, so when I encounter a great restaurant, I try to call attention to it in the hope that it will be supported. My favorite discovery of the month is Cholo's Kitchen on Lawton Street, just north of Main Street and south of the Public Library. Cholo's features a great assortment of Peruvian specialties (all flavorful, fresh, and inexpensive) in a charming, cozy setting. My personal favorite is the mixed seafood ceviche, raw fish "cooked" in lime juice. Cholo's also offers take-out service. Give it a try.

Went to Cholo's Kitchen yesterday. My boyfriend is Peruvian and he knows his stuff. He got the ceviche and papa a la huancaina (cold potatoes with a light cheese sauce) and loved them both.
We liked the interior, it was cozy and cute.
I am not a big fan of Peruvian but the Papa rellena was really good... lightly fried on the outside, and the meaty inside has a little lemony-creamy flavor. Very good.
